Reciept notice should be recieved as soon as USCIS recieves the application. It shouldn't take much time though I kind of feel it should not take more than couple of days from USCIS part to send the reciept and then 4-5 days for postal reciept. I guess in about weekdays time after reciept at USCIS, you should recieve the notice.
This is just my understanding. Also some one said, you can start working for the new company as soon as your application is delivered to the USCIS. Get this confirmed by some one.

It is possible. There is a relatively unknown technique called TT (abbreviation for Time Travel) which is also relatively related to relativity. When applied correctly, it is more effective than PD recapturing and labor substitution. That's how I got my green. Need some help, I was in US working for a consulting company and a good client for 4 years then due to some family issues I had to return back to India in the beginning of last year �08. I and my wife has visa stamped in passport valid till the end of this year. Now I want to come back to US and I am not sure if I can enter US again with the same visa as I do not have paystub from my employer for last 1.5 years.
During this 1.5 years I started my own business and tried various options but didn�t work out well so want to return back to US and during this time we had a son who doesn�t have a visa. Does any body know how I can return back to US, are they really strict at port of entry and would not let me in without a project. I don�t have a project right now and will look for it once I am in US. Any input would be very helpful.

As long as she does not work, and she has entered the country using her H4 (as against entering using Advance Parole), she is on H4. Once she uses her EAD, she is no longer on H4. Subsequent US entries will need to be on Advance Parole.

I am on h1b visa in my 6th year. My previous employer had applied for my GC under EB3. My I-140 was approved from old employer with the PD of october 2007.Now, my new employer is going to file the GC under EB2 but the lawyer is not sure if the I-140 would be approved (since its EB2). My question is:
If the new I-140 gets denied due to any reason, will my old I-140 still be valid (under EB3). The old I-140 has not been revoked or withdrawn. My new employer has applied for my h1b extension (beyond 6th year) on the basis of my previous approved I-140. pls do reply. thanks.

But don't worry about it too much (what can you do). Get your next job ASAP, and file for "premium processing".
In the past "extension of status" petitions had got approved even after almost a month gap, with good explanation. But you can never count on that.
Worst thing that can happen for a valid new H1 job is USCIS approve your H1 but reject your "extension of status" (I797 without I-94 attached). In that case, you might need to travel outside of USA and get your visa.
Either way, don't go beyond 180 days. There will be additional consequences.

I am on l2 since my husband is on L1. I work full time for a US employer with an EAD. Now, what would happen to my status if my husband quits his job? you have EAD, that EAD was entirely based on your L2 status. If L2 status is gone so EAD is invalid too....

She has not travelled a lot and she will not be able to figure out everything that is needed inside the consulate before and after the interview by herself. Now - my question is - Can my mom take anyone (say a relative) with her inside the consulate for help?

No, she cannot carry anyone else except herself inside the consulate. A relative can accompany her till she enters the consulate and your mother can ask for a translator and I am sure there would be people to help her, otherwise too.

I just received my EAD now. Though I am a 485 july filer, applied for EAD only in January.
My 6 th year H1 will come to end in Oct. Because 180 days since 485 filing is over, I want to use AC21 and change the Employer now, and I am thinking why to go again for H1. I have the EAD, and why not use it, though I will be joining another desi employer.
Does it seem the right thing to do? But everyine else I know changing the employer but again going for H1. Then why at all we have EAD.
I understand that if GC is rejected, and if we are on H1, we don't have to leave. But if GC is rejected, I really don't care. Even if I get the GC, I want to go to Mera Bharath Mahaan.
1. What are your thoughts on this?

After my 12th, I did a 2 year Diploma in Business from Australia and then did a 2 year MA(History) in correspondence (open uni) from India and also a 1 year PGDCA by correspondence.
I have more than 10 years of IT experience to go with my 12+2(fulltime)+3(correspondence)years of education.

My current H1 B expires on July 31 2011. With this I will be exhausting my renewals quota as my sponsoring company Wipro has not initiated GC process. Also when my last renewal was done, a mistake was done by Wipro Visa office. My first entry to US was in Aug 2004. After that I had gone out of US in Aug 2005 for 1 month vacation and returned in Sept 2005. Each time when we file for extensions, we give all the entry and exit dates. The Wipro visa office had incorrectly entered my first entry into US as Sept 2005 even though it should have been Aug 2004. Based on this they renewed my petition till July 31 2011. If we calculate now, it turns out to be the seventh year on H1. When I tried to change my employer this year, they looked at these details and informed that if I start GC process now, they will definitely calculate my dates and find out that I am in the 7th year of H1 without GC initiation. So they told it will cause issues and it would be better for me to leave the country after July 31 2011, wait for 1 year, sponsor a new H1 and then come back.
Is there any alternative I have here? Thanks for offering help.

I applied for a green card for my wife just after we were married on May 11, 2009. We received an appointment for an interview in Detroit on August 25, 2009, but we had moved to Texas in the meantime. The appointment was rescheduled at the Dallas field centre on September 14, 2009 (Monday).
I am wondering what to expect, from the small details to the big stuff. My 3 biggest questions:
. Does anyone have enough experience to say if there is there reasonable parking available at the field centre? I have never been to Irving. The web page says that there is public parking available, but nothing about how much.
. I was married before, and applied for a green card for my first wife. It was granted in 2004, and we divorced in 2006. Should I expect extra scrutiny / challenge because of this?
. Is one actually asked questions of the "What sort of toothpaste does your wife use?" variety? I'm really bad at remembering these details, and am wondering if there's any curve ball that I should expect.
. Is there a general impression of whether the Dallas field centre is a pleasant or an unpleasant place? My dealings with my first marriage (many years ago) were all with the Chicago field centre, which is very unpleasant, but my one piece of business with the Detroit field centre were easy and pleasant.
Thanks so much to anyone who can help relieve my nervousness about what to expect.
UPDATE: I forgot to ask another one: At my previous green card interview, the interviewer asked for a set of passport photos and paystubs for several previous months, although the interview letter had not requested them.
